日本人大学生 Ryoが答えた「卒業後アンケート」

今回は2024年3月に卒業をした日本人留学生Ryoへの卒業前インタビューを掲載します。

Ryoは大学の長期休みを利用した8週間の留学で、シングルルームに滞在、ネイティブESLコースを受講しました。

ネイティブESLコースでは主に発音やスピーキングをネイティブ講師から学べると日本人に特に人気のコースです。ネイティブ講師のマンツーマンレッスンを毎日1コマ週５回受けることができるほか、残りの5コマは訓練を受けたフィリピン人講師とのマンツーマンレッスンがあり、ボキャブラリー、文法、リスニング、ライティングなどを学びます。自由選択のナイトグループクラスでもネイティブ講師のレッスンがあるので、フィリピンにいながらネイティブの表現を習得することができます。

毎週末はいつもスクールメイトと食事に出かけました。小さい学校なので年齢も入学時期も国籍も関係なく皆仲良くなりました。

自己紹介をお願いします。
Kindly introduce yourself.

私の名前はRyoです。私は現在、日本にある武蔵野美術大学の2年生で建築を学んでいます。
私の夢は海外の大学院を卒業することです。人と会話をするのがとても好きで、新しい環境で人と関係を築くのが得意です。
My name is Ryo. I am currently a sophomore at Musashino Art University in Japan.
My dream is to go to a graduate school abroad. My favorite thing to do is to converse with people. I am good at building relationships with people in new environments.

A&Jアカデミーではどのコースを選びましたか？なぜそのコースを選んだのですか？
Which course did you choose? Why did you choose that course?

ネイティブESLコースを選びました。海外の大学院に行くことが夢だったので、さまざまなアクセントに慣れる必要があると思い、ネイティブESLコースの受講を決めました。
Native ESL course.
My dream is to go to a graduate school overseas, so I decided to take the Native ESL course because I thought I needed to get used to various accents.

実際授業を受けてどのように感じましたか？
How did you feel about the actual course?

ネイティブESLコースを受講してとても良かったです。
自分の弱点を見つけることができましたし、ネイティブスピーカーが日常的に使うような多くの語彙や表現を学ぶことができました。
I am glad I did the native English course. I was able to discover my weaknesses and was able to learn many vocabulary and expressions that are commonly used by native speakers.

なぜ、バギオシティーを留学に選びましたか？
Why did you choose Baguio City to study English?

私はアトピー性皮膚炎で、とても皮膚が繊細です。暑くて湿気の多い汗をよくかくような場所は自分に向いていないと考え、気候のよいバギオを選びました。
I was born with atopic dermatitis and my skin is sensitive, so I knew I would not do well in a hot and humid environment that would promote sweating, so I chose Baguio because it has a temperate climate.

実際に過ごしてみてバギオについてどう思いますか？
What do you think about Baguio?

バギオに滞在して思ったのが、バギオは日本の秋のような感じがします。とても快適で肌の調子がよくなりました。また、バギオの人々は日本より親切でフレンドリーだと感じました。
When I stayed in Baguio, I found that Baguio is like autumn in Japan, so it was very comfortable and my skin condition improved. And the people are kinder and friendlier than Japanese.

どうやってA&Jアカデミーを見つけましたか？学校についてどのように言われていましたか？
How did you find A&J Academy? What are the things mentioned about the school?

なぜA&Jに決めたかというと、学校を選ぶ上での私のいろんな要望にマッチしたからです。
私が学校を選ぶ前にエージェントに伝えたことは、「良い食事」「マンツーマンクラスの提供」、「セミスパルタ」、「日本人の少なさ」という4つの条件でした。
I decided to go to A&J because it was the only one that matches my various requirements. I told the agent that I wanted a place with good food, one-on-one classes, semi-Sparta programs, and few Japanese.

なぜ、A&Jアカデミーへの入学を決めましたか？
Why did you choose to study in A&J Academy?

私はいつも楽なほうに流れてしまうところがあります。日本人が多くいる学校だと日本人と話して留学が終わってしまうことを恐れ、日本人比率の少ないA&Jに入学することに決めました。また、食事の内容が韓国料理だと聞いて日本人の舌にも合うと思い、入学を決めました。
I am a person who always takes the easy way out, so I decided to enroll in A&J because I was afraid that I would end up talking with Japanese people if there are many Japanese. I also decided to enroll in A&J because the food is Korean style, which is more suitable for Japanese tastes.

A&Jアカデミーでの思い出を教えてください。
What are your memories in A&J academy?

2ヶ月の留学中に多くの場所に行きました。
最初の週、私を入れてスクールメイト6人で1泊2日でビーチに行きました。日本人がいなかったのでとても不安でしたが、現地に着いてからは、なんとか意気込みと勢いで旅を楽しむことができました。旅をして韓国、ベトナム、台湾人留学生と話した経験から、英語をもっと上達させなければと思い、寝る時間以外は単語の勉強をしたり、A&Jの生徒と英語で話すようにしました。
I went to many places during my two months of study. In my first week, I was invited on a trip and six of us went on an overnight trip. I was very anxious because there were no Japanese there. However, once we got there, we managed to enjoy the trip with our enthusiasm and momentum.I thought that I had to improve my English, so I spent most of the time studying vocabulary or talking with A&J students in English, except when I went to bed.

入学してすぐに行った旅行が、英語をさらに上達させたいと思えるきっかけになりました。

A&Jアカデミーの先生はどうでしたか？
What can you say about the teachers of A&J academy?

A&Jの先生たちはフレンドリーで、生徒の意見を尊重してくれます。また、私のニーズに合わせて授業を調整してくれます。私も先生たちのような優しくて親切な先生になりたいと思い、帰国してすぐにアルバイトで英語塾の先生になり、毎日頑張っています。
The teachers are friendly and respectful of students’ opinions. They can adjust my classes to meet my needs. I wanted to be such a kind and helpful teacher like them, so I became an English cram school teacher as soon as I returned to Japan and I’m working hard every day.

Can you give some comments about A&J academy?

A&Jアカデミーは少人数の学校なので、生徒と先生の距離が近く、年齢に関係なく誰でも友達になれると思います。もう一度フィリピンに留学する機会があったら、またA&Jを選びたいです。
Because the school has a small number of students, I believe that students and teachers have a close relationship and can become friends regardless of age. If I am to study abroad again, I will go to A&J.
